Mathieu Maes

Mathieu Maes is an experienced Policy Advisor with a strong background in business ethics, sustainability, and regulatory affairs at the European and international levels. Fluent in French, Dutch, and English, he has spent over two decades working at the intersection of public policy, corporate governance, and responsible business conduct.

Currently serving as Policy Advisor and Chief Impact Officer at DALDEWOLF, an international law firm based in Brussels and Kinshasa, Mathieu ensures the firm’s mission and values are consistently reflected in its operations. His responsibilities include overseeing strategic initiatives, managing projects and resource allocation, and promoting sustainable practices in client services and stakeholder engagement.

From 2011 to 2021, Mathieu held the position of Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce in Belgium (ICC Belgium). In this role, he led national and international advocacy efforts, supported Belgian businesses in navigating global trade and compliance challenges, and acted as the organization’s spokesperson. His work focused on policy dialogue, event coordination, communication strategies, and the development of value-added services for members.

Earlier in his career, Mathieu headed the Benelux branch of an Italian design company, gaining valuable experience in commercial leadership, cross-border operations, and team management.

Beyond his professional roles, Mathieu is committed to promoting transparency, ethical business, and good governance. He served on the Board of Directors of Transparency International Belgium (2016–2022) and was Vice President of the Foundation No to Counterfeiting and Piracy (2015–2021).

He has contributed to several major publications in the fields of anti-corruption, cybersecurity, and technological risk. Among his notable editorial contributions are the Anti-corruption Guide for Belgian Enterprises Overseas, the Belgian Cyber Security Guide, and a study on the societal and environmental challenges posed by 5G technologies.

Mathieu holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Université Catholique de Louvain. Throughout his career, he has developed a deep understanding of EU legislative processes, sustainable development goals, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence.

His work is driven by a conviction that responsible business practices and inclusive economic development are essential to long-term prosperity. He regularly engages with public and private stakeholders to foster dialogue on trade, compliance, and ESG strategy.
