Indonesia-Europe Business Forum 2025. Synergy for New and Renewable Energy

ASEANcham EU was honored to participate in and support the Indonesia-Europe Business Forum (IBEF) 2025. This year’s theme, “Synergy for New and Renewable Energy,” brought together stakeholders from Indonesia and the European Union to advance Indonesia’s ambitious goal of achieving Net-Zero by 2060 and 70 GW of power generation from green energy sources by 2034.

During the forum, three key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed:

  1. Pertamina with Hyet BV
  2. PT PLN with IB Vogt GmbH
  3. PT PLN with Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH

The event also reiterated Indonesia’s ambition to join the OECD and highlights the importance of its bilateral relationship with both the EU and Germany. The Just Energy Transition Program (JETP) has $19.6 billion pledged to Indonesia, with approximately $1.7 billion of that amount coming from Germany. The mobilised funds from JETP together with Indonesia’s newly formed sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, serves as a unique opportunity and incentive for green energy firms in both regions to deepen their collaboration and investments.

Speakers at the forum emphasized four high-potential renewable energy resources in Indonesia: wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. The forum also underscored the crucial role of the EU and China in driving the global energy transition, especially in the context of the U.S.’s retreat from multilateralism.

With Germany seeking to diversify its supply chains and Indonesia needing incentives and capacity building, this enhanced cooperation is mutually beneficial. The forum serves as a prime example of the kind of cross-bloc engagement that is essential for future progress, and ASEANcham highly supports and encourages more undertakings of this nature.
