The Malaysian Embassy hosted a launch event for the kick-off of the annual ASEAN Day celebrations this week on 26 September 2024. ASEAN Day, which falls on 8 August, is celebrated across the world by ASEAN communities and embassies. Malaysia, who is currently chairing the ASEAN Brussels’ Committee (ABC) for the second half of 2024, also took the opportunity to organise a forum on the topics of Practical Cooperation with ASEAN: Post-election Political Situation in Belgium; and Importance of Regional Peace and Stability in an Increasingly Volatile World.
His Excellency Dato’ Mohd Khalid Abbasi Abdul Razak, Ambassador of Malaysia to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU, and sitting Advisory Council member of ASEANcham-EU, gave the opening remarks, touching on the growth of EU-ASEAN relations over the years.
The forum was then opened by a panel discussion with H.E. François Delhaye, Director, Asia and the Pacific Division, FPS of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, and Dr. Koert Debeuf, Distinguished Adjunct Professor, Brussels School of Governance, VUB.
ASEANcham-EU thanks Ambassador Khalid and the Embassy of Malaysia for organising a successful kick-off event and wishes all members and partners a happy ASEAN Day!
